Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is the world’s largest shared reading experience and
celebrates and supports children’s early language and social-emotional development. The
event builds community through reading and raises awareness around the critical importance of early literacy and access to inclusive literature that fosters belonging and connection by reflecting children’s own experiences as well as showing the experiences of others.
The Early Childhood Department will continue to join Jumpstart’s Read for the Record
activity to raise awareness for the crisis in early literacy. We again hope to join with others
across the country to read a book on the same day.
This year, the campaign hopes to break that record on October 26, 2023 by reading With
Lots of Love by Jenny Torres Sanchez.
